A Local's Guide to the Best Activities to Do in the South End

As a local real estate expert, I’m very excited to share some of my favorite attractions and experiences in one of Boston’s most desired neighborhoods, the South End. Get ready to explore the neighborhood's fascinating history, vibrant art scene, delicious food, and local shopping options.

The South End has stolen my heart with its charming brick-row homes and buildings, boutique shops, and unique culinary options. Everywhere you turn in this district, you'll find a lively celebration of our city's rich cultural heritage.

Immerse yourself in Art at The SoWa Open Market

For the creative souls, the South End is a haven of artistic expression. The SoWa Open Market is a must-visit, showcasing works from creators across Boston and New England. This market takes place every Sunday, May through October, and features various handmade crafts, unique artworks, and mouthwatering local food trucks.

Uncover the Rich History History enthusiasts will find plenty to explore in the South End. The Cyclorama, a historic building dating back to the 19th century, is a must-see. Originally designed to host a wraparound mural of the Battle of Gettysburg, this unique rounded structure now hosts art exhibitions and events that provide a fascinating glimpse into the past. Another notable historical architectural landmark in the South End is the Cathedral of the Holy Cross. As the largest Roman Catholic cathedral in New England, it is renowned for its beautiful architecture and history. No guide to the South End would be complete without mentioning Wally's. This old-school jazz and blues joint has been serenading its patrons since 1947 and has played a vital role in introducing jazz music to the city. Take a seat, order a drink, and let the soulful melodies transport you back in time.

Experience the Culinary Scene

The South End is a paradise for foodies that offers a diverse range of restaurants. My favorites are Kava Neo Taverna, which offers fresh Mediterranean dishes, and Coppa Enoteca serves Italian cuisine. B and G Oysters is the go-to place for seafood enthusiasts, with fresh oysters and lobster rolls. Shore Leave is a tiki-inspired bar and restaurant that offers creative cocktails and Asian-inspired cuisine if you’re looking for a tropical escape in the heart of the city.

Shop Local in the South End

After satisfying your taste buds, take some time to go shopping. I highly recommend Flock, a boutique that showcases a curated collection of clothing, accessories, and home decor items from independent designers. Sault New England is a must-visit store specializing in menswear, grooming products, and accessories. M Flynn Jewelry has a stunning selection of handcrafted jewelry.
